MuteMath

www.myspace.com/mutemath

I heard the buzz about this band and had to check them out. They were recommended to me by a close friend describing them as a cross between The Police, Radiohead and Switchfoot. Interesting. I got ahold of the Reset E.P. and couldn't stop listening.

MuteMath was just here in Minneapolis last Thursday, playing a 7 pm show at the Fine Line Music Cafe. It was an all ages show, with doors opening at a very 'un-rock n roll' time of 5 pm. MuthMath impressed, providing lots of energy and a tightness that comes with weeks of touring. If you want to check out some good music, consider Mutemath.

I finally did it. I bought a new camera for keeps. After a lot of thinking and reading, I opted for the Canon 30D with the EF28 - 135 mm IS f/ 3.5 - 5.6 lens. With the 1.6x sensor conversion factor, it gives me an effective 46 - 216 mm lens. Although, it would be great to have a wider angle lens for certain applications, most of my photos are either close up or I need the length of a telephoto lens. This lens lets me do both because it is able to focus macro, as the image above shows.

candles

I had purchased a Panasonic Lumix FZ30 to try out. I was initially impressed by the Leica lens, the 12x optical zoom, and the image stabilization. After trying out the camera for a couple weeks, I realized that only half of my photo needs were being met. I had a relatively small, lightweight camera with good optics that I could take anywhere very easily. But for that I was sacrificing a lot of digital artifact noise in low light shooting situations. I thought that this camera was going to work, but I think that I am back to wanting a DSLR. For me, the Canon 30D is the front runner with the EFS 18 - 85 mm IS lens. We'll see what happens. Posted by Picasa
